SCS SB 137 -- PUBLIC SCHOOL RETIREMENT SYSTEM OF MISSOURI
SPONSOR: Bray (Moore)
COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Special Committee on
Retirement by a vote of 8 to 0.
Currently, retired teachers of the Public School Retirement
System of Missouri can teach full-time for up to two years for a
school district having a critical shortage of teachers and still
receive retirement benefits. This substitute clarifies that
teachers can work part-time or full-time for two years in these
districts without losing their retirement benefits.
FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2008, FY 2009, and
FY 2010.
PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will clarify that
districts can hire these retirees back for two years at up to
full-time capacity.
Testifying for the bill were Senator Bray; and Missouri National
Education Association.
OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
